Dangerous Heat in the Central and Southern U.S.; Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Northern Plains

Dangerous, prolonged heat is expected across portions of the Central and Southeast U.S. through July. Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected over parts of the northern Plains into the upper Mississippi Valley Tuesday, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats. Overview

Memorial Day thunderstorms produced widespread large hail and wind damage across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.  There were five brief EF-0 tornadoes confirmed. See this Public Information Statement for the details. 

In addition to the severe weather, heavy rainfall and flooding were reported in many locations.  With the 1.92" of rain recorded at Chicago O'Hare, this set a daily record for precipitation for May 27th, as well as making it the wettest Memorial Day on record.
