A Heat Advisory is in effect on Friday from 1 PM until 8 PM for the Rolling Plains and far southeast Texas Panhandle. Temperatures of 105-109° are likely. Limit time outdoors and stay hydrated.
A slight chance of thunderstorms will exist this afternoon and evening with the best chances located north of Texas Highway 114. Storms will be capable of producing strong wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall.
Very warm temperatures will continue this afternoon with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees area wide. A slight chance of thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening north of Texas Highway 114.
Warm temperatures will continue this weekend into early next week with little chances of precipitation.

Local Weather History For August 21st...
1979: After a public report of a tornado near Hale Center late this afternoon, another tornado developed near Shallowater
from a slow-moving thunderstorm. Several storm chasers from Texas Tech witnessed this storm later produce a narrow funnel
from a wall cloud located just west of Shallowater. Storm chasers farther north near Plainview reported seeing the top of
the parent thunderstorm collapse at approximately the same time the funnel occurred. Both tornadoes remained over open
land.
