1970: The third and final consecutive day of tornadic activity on the South Plains concluded late this afternoon.
Initially, a brief tornado touched down five miles west of Reese AFB at 3:40 PM, but the most significant event occurred in the form of three simultaneous tornadoes between Halfway and Edmonson in Hale County at 4:30 PM. Reports indicated that two of the three tornadoes first touched down about one-to-two miles west of Halfway and moved northeast. One of these damaged outbuildings on the A.D. Huddleston farm while the other struck the M.C. Church farm about one mile west of the Huddleston farm. South of Edmonson, a tornado broke windows in the Ed Smith farm and later struck a vacant house about three miles farther northeast. |
