Strong to Severe Storms in the Upper Midwest; Bering Sea Low Continues to Impact Southwest Alaska

Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday across central and eastern Minnesota, Iowa, and western Wisconsin. A few tornadoes, isolated very large hail, and damaging winds may occur. In southwest Alaska, a Bering Sea low continues to cause strong winds, significant rainfall, and high seas, with further impacts expected Friday into the weekend from a North Pacific storm. SYNOPSIS:

An upper level jet continues to stream in moisture over the area.  Western mountains will keep seeing light to moderate snow while some warmer locations are still seeing rain to a mix.  However, this will eventually flip over to snow as a cold front will approach from the northwest this afternoon, and quickly pass through central and southeast Wyoming by Wednesday morning.  Most of the precipitation is expected along this boundary, but a second punch looks to set up as a leeside low is expected to form after the front passes.  This second punch looks to affect the entire region through Friday.  A high wind warning also remains in effect for many areas until 11 PM tonight, but this may be extended as gusty winds are expected to persist through Thursday.
