Showers and storms will enter and expand across New Mexico today, reaching central and eastern NM this evening and overnight. Precipitation intensity peaks Tuesday before clearing conditions by Wednesday through Thursday.
Yet another surge of monsoon moisture combined with two merging storm systems will yield a two to three day stretch of long duration and widespread showers and thunderstorms. A Flood Watch is in effect from today thru at least Wednesday morning across most of New Mexico.
A slight to moderate risk of excessive rainfall and flash flooding is in place across much of New Mexico today and Tuesday, with a smaller area of risk lingering into Wednesday. The highest potential for more widespread heavy rainfall is currently focused across northeastern New Mexico, where a higher-end moderate risk has been introduced.
Two day rainfall totals b/w today and Wednesday will likely range 1 to 3 inches most areas, with locally higher amounts of 4 to 6 inches in isolated spots that see the heaviest repeated downpours.
Southerly wind gusts of 25 to 45 mph mainly Tuesday into Wednesday will create difficult travel for large and high-profile vehicles. Large trees with saturated soils may lead to downed trees, especially in the higher terrain Tuesday.
This next surge of monsoon moisture lasts Monday through at least Wednesday for most areas. Drier conditions return west to east across New Mexico Thursday and Friday.
