With rich monsoon moisture in place, some showers and thunderstorms will be capable of producing rain at rates over 1 inch per hour Tuesday. The greatest risk of flash flooding will be over western areas, where a few locations may accumulate over 2 inches of rainfall.
A strong high pressure system will center over eastern NM during the latter half of the week producing high temperatures from the upper 90s to near 105 F at lower elevations of central and eastern NM.
Storms will favor the central mountain chain westward through Thursday, then spread to the eastern plains as well starting Friday. Hot temperatures will produce moderate-to-major heat risk at lower elevations central and east during the latter half of the week.
