Excessive Rainfall and Significant Flooding in the Upper Midwest This Weekend

Heavy to excessive rainfall is expected over the weekend across eastern Iowa, northern Missouri, northwest Illinois and southern Wisconsin. There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for Severe Thunderstorms over northeastern NM Sunday afternoon and early evening. The main threats will be damaging winds and large hail.
Temperatures will cool a few degrees on Sunday as a weak surface boundary arrives, but readings will still be hot in the Rio Grande valley and the lower Pecos valley. Thunderstorms will increase over northeastern New Mexico Sunday afternoon with a few strong to severe cells, rolling into the east central areas by the evening.
Temperatures will cool a few more degrees in central to eastern New Mexico on Monday with much more shower and thunderstorm activity over these areas during the afternoon and evening. Slow-moving storms will be capable of producing heavy downpours.
Dry thunderstorms will be possible again in west central to northwestern New Mexico on Sunday. Gusty winds and lightning will accompany these storms and could spark new wildfires. Storms will increase in northeastern New Mexico on Sunday with an expansion of storms over the eastern half of the state into Monday. The increasing showers and storms will be accompanied by slightly cooler temperatures.
