Windy conditions and very low humidity will combine with very dry fuels to produce fire weather concerns over the south-central and far southwest mountains Tuesday, and probably again Wednesday. Locations impacted include Ruidoso and Glenwood.
Winds increase early this week, peaking on Tuesday and Wednesday. Strong wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph will scatter and topple loose items like lawn furniture and garbage cans and result in difficult to hazardous crosswinds on the north to south oriented roads and highways. Dry conditions will also arrive, leading to an increased risk of fire spread for western and south-central areas.
High temperatures will be above average across the state Monday and Tuesday. Minor to locally moderate risk of heat related impacts exist across much of the region, with higher confidence for Chaves County. Make sure to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities!
