Thunderstorms will turn strong on Sunday with a few cells even turning severe with frequent lightning, heavy downpours, damaging winds, and large hail over portions of central and eastern New Mexico. There is a marginal risk for excessive rainfall this weekend. The area at risk for Saturday will be over the south central mountains with the risk area expanding over much of eastern New Mexico on Sunday. This means significant, and occasionally heavy, rainfall will increase the risk of ponding of water in low lying areas or even flooding of low water crossings or normally dry creeks. Wildfire burn scars will be at a greater risk for flooding.
A relatively active weather pattern with daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue into early next week with northeastern New Mexico forecast to receive the most rainfall, generally ranging between 0.5" to 1.5" with isolated higher amounts.
