Critical fire weather is likely on Friday over much of the Caprock with an elevated threat farther east. West-southwest winds will pick up to 20-30 mph toward noon on very dry air. Avoid outdoor burning and any activities with sparks.
Strong winds will develop beginning late this morning lasting through the afternoon across the extreme southwestern Texas Panhandle.
Warm, dry, and breezy conditions will return to the area today leading to critical fire weather conditions. Some light blowing dust could occur across the region.
Much cooler temperatures will spread into the area tonight behind a cold front early Saturday morning.
A cold front will move through the region early Saturday morning bringing cooler temperatures to start the weekend. Temperatures will warm up next week again with increasing chances of precipitation mid-week.

2008: A period of light snowfall occurred during the morning and early afternoon hours of the 6th. A few locations across
the South Plains region received snow accumulations of two to three inches such as Turkey and Friona.
