Isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon, with better chances arriving this evening into tonight. The highest probability of severe storms will be tonight near the TX/NM state line.

Mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures are expected today with a slight chance of a few afternoon thunderstorms. Better chances for more widespread showers and storms arrive this evening through late tonight, especially on the Caprock.

Chances for precipitation will increase this evening through early Wednesday morning. The greatest chances will be across the southwestern Texas Panhandle into the western South Plains. Strong winds, small hail, and frequent lightning will be the primary threats from this activity.

Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms continue through this weekend. Temperatures will remain near or slightly below average for this time of year.

Local Weather History For June 2nd...

1965: Five persons were killed and 76 injured late this evening when a long-lived F4 tornado cut a path of destruction
from near Spade directly through Hale Center covering a distance of at least 40 miles. This tornado was first observed
near Spade at 9 PM and it continued northeast before striking Hale Center at 9:25 PM. No information was provided
concerning where this tornado finally dissipated, but based on the severity of damage reports its likely the tornado
continued northeast of Hale Center for an unknown distance. The majority of residents were well aware of the tornado and
had taken shelter in advance
