The next potential for precipitation, in the form of a rain and snow mix, is forecast to arrive Thursday, as a quick-moving storm system passes over the southern Great Plains. Precipitation accumulations of any kind will be light; however, slick roadways will be a possibility, especially during the morning hours Thursday. Please continue to monitor the forecast, as updates can be expected each day leading up to Thursday.
Low clouds will last through the nighttime hours, with light winds. Expect temperatures to drop into the lower-middle 20s for most, with the exception of the southeastern Rolling Plains where lows right around freezing are expected.
Temperatures will moderate Monday, but still be on the chilly side, with diminishing clouds and light winds.
Cold weather will make its return to West Texas tonight through Monday morning. Here are some tips on dressing appropriately for cold weather so you can avoid hypothermia or frostbite.

Local Weather History For December 1st...
2009 (1st-2nd): A mix of wintry precipitation began to fall over portions of the western South Plains during the pre-dawn
hours on the 1st. Periods of mixed precipitation and occasional snow continued to overspread the region during the daytime
hours until a band of heavier snowfall developed over the central South Plains during the evening hours and persisted into
the early morning of the 2nd as a potent upper air storm system passed over the region. The heaviest snow fell along a
narrow swath from near Hale Center to south of Floydada. Observers reported that between six and seven inches fell south
of Floydada, but the maximum amount of snow on the ground was four inches. The wintry precipitation resulted in hazardous
travel conditions that led to eighteen accidents in Lubbock, but reported incidents elsewhere were minimal. The heaviest
snow of four inches was measured at the Floydada Country Club.
