It will be a warm and windy New Year's day. Highs will be in the 70s for much of the region. Breezy westerly winds up to 30 mph will be possible across the Caprock.
The first weekend of the New Year will be warm with no chance of precipitation in sight.

 

 

 

Local Weather History For December 31st...
1992: A round of freezing rain moved across the South Plains during the evening of the 31st. The ice was over 1/2 inch
thick on autos and other exposed surfaces. Several traffic accidents resulted from the hazardous conditions. The weight of
the ice broke tree branches and power lines in Lubbock, Hale Center and Littlefield. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries
resulted.
