A Flood Watch is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon through 10 AM Sunday area wide. 1 to 3 inches of rainfall with locally higher amounts will be possible and may lead to flash flooding.
Numerous storms forecast to develop and move into West Texas this afternoon and tonight. The risk for excessive rainfall includes all of the South Plains, the Rolling Plains, and the far southern Panhandle. Between 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, will be possible.
Numerous thunderstorms forecast to develop and move into West Texas this afternoon and into tonight. A few storms may be severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts near 60 mph and small hail.
Unsettled weather will continue through tonight with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms expected to develop this afternoon through tonight. Temperatures today will be below normal with highs in the 80s followed by lows tonight in the 60s.
Thunderstorm chances will decrease in the latter parts of the holiday weekend, remaining low through at least the middle part of the week. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be mostly below normal.

1965: Lightning killed a 39 year-old farm worker this afternoon on a farm about two miles northeast of Levelland. The man
was walking to a farm house with his two sons at the time. The two boys suffered non-lethal injuries.
