Heavy Rainfall to Bring Flooding Threat to California; Heavy Snow in the Sierra

A strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall to California through the holiday week. The heaviest rainfall is expected on Wednesday in the Los Angeles Basin. Flash and urban flooding is possible. A prolonged heavy snowfall is expected in the Sierra Nevada from the atmospheric river, raising concerns for major snow‐load impacts. The Western Region Program Support Division (PSD) provides an avenue for field offices to carry out the NWS Strategic Plan objectives. PSD supports the efforts of field offices and other divisions to provide environmental decision support by:

Providing information, structure, prioritization, and guidance to enable WR offices to meet stakeholder requirements

Removing barriers and impediments to progress

Fostering new services and innovation to move the agency forward

Taking a leadership role in workgroups to ensure field offices are provided with the highest level of support and responsiveness

Evaluating field performance in meeting the NWS Strategic Plan objectives

Ensuring field needs are met through appropriate training and tools

Anticipating future direction and preparing the field for upcoming changes
