Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Mississippi Valley; Fire Weather Concerns in the Southern High Plains

Severe thunderstorms and the threat for excessive rainfall will move into the mid-Mississippi and lower Ohio Valleys today. There is potential for a few strong tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, large hail, and scattered flash flooding. Systems and Facilities Division (SFD)

The Systems and Facilities Division (SFD) manages the operations and maintenance of the various systems and facilities which support the NWS Western Region weather enterprise. Examples include Doppler Radar (WSR-88D), Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS), NOAA Weather Radio (NWR), Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), local and wide area networks, buildings, grounds, and towers, just to name a few.
