Extreme Heat and Excessive Rainfall Today

Dangerous and extreme heat will remain across portions of the southern U.S. through the weekend. A heat wave over the Southwest U.S. will intensify this week, peaking and expanding into the Intermountain West and northern High Plains this weekend. The Systems and Facilities Division (SFD) manages the operations and maintenance of the various systems and facilities which support the NWS Western Region weather enterprise. Examples include Doppler Radar (WSR-88D), Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS), NOAA Weather Radio (NWR), Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), local and wide area networks, buildings, grounds, and towers, just to name a few.
