Major Winter Storm to Impact the Central and Eastern U.S. Through this Weekend

An impactful Pacific storm will move east and redevelop into a significant winter storm. Heavy snow to the north of this storm and heavy rain to the south with freezing rain at the junction will form over the Central U.S. Friday. This system shifts into the Eastern States on Saturday with heavy snow from the Midwest to the Northeast, and heavy rain from the Mid-South to the Mid-Atlantic. Read More >

The Systems and Facilities Division (SFD) manages the operations and maintenance of the various systems and facilities which support the NWS Western Region weather enterprise. Examples include Doppler Radar (WSR-88D), Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS), NOAA Weather Radio (NWR), Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), local and wide area networks, buildings, grounds, and towers, just to name a few.
