Drought Conditions Intensify

Some patchy early morning fog. Skies will start off mostly cloudy, then becoming partly cloudy later in the afternoon. Highs in the 80s. South-southwest winds 10-20 mph.

The week is a new one, but the near-record temperatures are sticking with us through the first half of the week. Forecast highs will be near daily records across the area, but particularly for the Houston metro, which has already seen records fall the past few days.

A tale of two weeks this week - the first half will continue the near-record high temperatures of the past few days, along with a gradual increase in humidity. A cold front arrives late in the week to cool things back down to near seasonal averages, and will also bring rain, potentially heavy rain.

A cold front is anticipated to move through SE Texas late Thursday. Heavy rainfall will be possible with storms ahead of and along the front. Some storms could be on the stronger side and produce damaging wind gusts. Timing and intensity of storms is subject to change over the next few days, so stay tuned to updates in the forecast.

Drought conditions continue to expand across southeast Texas. Low rain chances will return to the forecast beginning early next week.
