Showers and Thunderstorms for the East; Cooler Temperatures Return Sunday into Early Week

Showers and thunderstorms will accompany a cold front that will move across the eastern third of the country through Sunday. In the wake of this front, cooler temperatures will follow for most areas east of the Rockies. Showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of and along a cold front that pushes into the area this afternoon and tonight. A few storms may become strong to severe. Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) of Severe Weather for most of Southeast Texas. Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall for areas north and northwest of the Houston Metro area, and a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for the rest of Southeast Texas.
There is a high risk of rip currents along all Gulf-facing beaches through Saturday evening. Use extra caution, always swim near a lifeguard and stay away from rocks, jetties, and piers
Strong northeasterly winds and elevated seas are expected to develop early Sunday morning in the wake of today's cold front. Winds of 15-25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots and seas of 4-8 feet will continue into Monday afternoon.
Shower and thunderstorms continue along a southward moving cold front. Cooler and breezy behind the front.
