Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms containing moderate to heavy rainfall expected through the weekend. Locally heavy rainfall capable of at least minor flooding is expected. River rises to action and minor flood state expected by the weekend.
Widespread 1 to 3 inches of rain fell over the last 48 hours with highest totals of 6-8+ inches along the coast. Rainfall totals over the next several days will come in multiple rounds. Lower rainfall totals tonight into Friday, followed by higher totals over the holiday weekend. Higher rainfall totals of 2-4+ inches are expected Saturday through Monday.
A Flood Watch is in effect from Thursday morning through Monday morning for portions of southeast Texas, including Jackson, Matagorda, Wharton, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston counties. Impacts include excessive runoff resulting in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood prone locations.
Unsettled pattern will lead to continued chances for showers and thunderstorms, with additional rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall. Periods of locally heavy rainfall are expected, through the weekend. Rainfall rates will peak in the 3-4+” per hour range in the heaviest downpours. This rainfall will generate runoff and river responses, especially where we see repeated heavy rainfall over the same locations leading to street flooding and river flooding potential through the weekend.
